[Internet Filtering]- What goes wrong?

Assalamualaikum and Good Day.

Pertaining to the performance of Internet Connection, ITMS is now in the mode of evaluating the best method that will satisfy students including the latest change which is the restriction of students accessibility to related websites. The purposes of doing this content filtering are:

1) To block the forbidden websites and unrelated educational materials that can cause harm such as pornography and so on.

2) To prevent/block users that use most of the bandwidth for downloading unrelated educational materials.

Due to this matter, students concern must come together with whatever problems that are being faced when the content filtering is turn on. For the time being, this action is done by taking the said purposes into consideration for benefits of entire campus students.

The purpose is again to ensure users that are really use internet for educational purposes will not facing any internet latency. However, what students can do is if there are any necessary website being blocked or denied , kindly report to arfaishah@petronas.com.my so that the problem can be solved. If users face latency accessing the internet please provide the trace route thus ITMS could identify the problems.

In order to evaluate the internet performance, please give the feedbacks to ITMS and will be looking forward for future development.

[President SRCUTP 09/10] Wishes You All The Best In Final Exam

Assalamualaikum wbt and Hi to everyone!

We are now in the middle of the examination period, study very hard to score the goal. All the hard effort of one semester in UTP will symbolically end at the ink and paper in the examination hall. This environment will repeat again and again until we release the title as a student. No matter what, life must go on. We from SRCUTP wish you all the best in your exam.

This year, examination brings the new challenges to my friends as there are many unexpected things happened. No study week, improper final exam timetable, new format of examination and etc. I am sure many of us are not satisfy with this situation and perhaps have been complaining through the personal blogs, e-mailing and write a letter to the management. For me, that is your right to voice out your opinion. Just do it. Personally, I love to read the opinion of my friends with the suggestion to overcome the problem as long as it is in a proper manner.

However, I believe that SRCUTP 2008/09 has been working hardly to find the very best way for all of us. Through several meetings with management and engagement with class representative, they manage to reduce the bad impact. The SRCUTP 2009/10 will take this situation into account and ensure it will not happen again in the future.

Again, all the best in your exam and enjoy the holiday! Strive to uplift our result and also the UTP academic performance.

For Internship friends (January 2010 semester) - Now you are going to face the working life in real for about 8 months. I wish you guys all the best in practicing the acquired knowledge from UTP.

For Final Year Final Semester friends (Batch January 2005) – I believe that surely you will miss your life as students after this. The memories of waking up early at 8.00 a.m. to go to lecture, conducting experiment at the lab for about half day (probably even more than that), struggling to do last minute assignment, being summoned by security guard, outing with best friends at Ipoh Parade, have your supper at Kedai Mamak while watching football game and etc., surely will remain in your heart. I hope with all those memories attached, you will always remember and love this university. Thus, contribute back wherever you can to our beloved university. Your brothers and sisters here will always pray for your success.

[UPDATE] Visit on Irene Lock Sow Mei at Ampang Hospital

In the picture is Irene with Ex-SRCUTP 2008/09, Norzila Noh

By Awangku Alizul Azahari, Public Relations of SRCUTP 2009/10

On 13th November 2009, a group of internship students and me, on behalf of SRCUTP 2009/10 had visited Irene Lock. She is a second year student who is taking Chemical Engineering and right now undergoing intensive treatment due to leukemia illness.

Our presence was welcomed by her parents at level 7 of Ampang Hospital. Our feelings were touched as her parents began to share about her condition and the moment Irene was transferred from Ipoh Hospital.

Although Irene’s condition was too weak, she was able to smile even she had a conversation with us, telling and sharing about her feelings.

We were informed that, before this Irene had missed several tests for the subjects taken because of her current health condition. Surprisingly, she managed to go back to UTP to take one of the tests and she deserved to score full marks in that test.

At this moment, she lost her appetites due to illness of the treatment that she gone through. We hope that Irene will get well soon, and we are also hoping that all UTP students can give some motivations and moral support to her against this disease by visiting and keep in touch with her all the time.

We are running the donation in campus and anyone who wish to make some donation for her, you may contact the Welfare EXCO of SRCUTP at 013-4745300 (Wan Ibrahim) or 019-5426607 (Nur Syafiqah), or you may put your donation in the donation boxes available at all cafeterias.

Finally, if there are anybody wants to visit Irene before holiday from UTP, with the number of students exceeds 20 persons; please contact our Welfare EXCO as soon as possible so that we could discuss about the date and arrange the transportation from UTP to the hospital.
