OUR FRIEND HAS LOST HIS BROTHER

This is to inform that, early this morning (around 2 am) one of our UTP students (Dzul Khairee Yasaa, Mechanical Engineering, 3rd Year 1st Semester, 013-4456868) has lost one of his brothers due to an accident. The accident was took place in Jengka, Pahang while he was riding a motorcycle.

Dzul Khairee is now in Pahang and this will be a hardship time to him as he will be sitting for Final from Sunday to Wednesday. He must be very strong and our support must be meaningful to him. We are also informed that the late will be buried this morning Lets us pray to Allah SWT that he will belong to those of the righteous. Ameen.

Khaled Bentang Lapan Agenda Pembangunan KPT Untuk RMK-10






Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Noordin semalam membentangkan lapan agenda utama yang akan membawa perubahan besar kepada lanskap pendidikan tinggi negara untuk dirangka dan dilaksanakan oleh pihak kementerian dan agensi-agensi di bawahnya dalam Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10 yang akan bermula tahun hadapan.
NILAI: Menteri Pengajian Tinggi, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin semalam membentangkan lapan agenda utama yang akan membawa perubahan besar kepada lanskap pendidikan tinggi negara untuk dirangka dan dilaksanakan oleh pihak kementerian dan agensi-agensi di bawahnya dalam Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10 yang akan bermula tahun hadapan.

Dengan tema “Menjamin Masa Depan Malaysia” atau “Securing Malaysia’s Future”,beliau mahu pihak kementerian mengurangkan penumpuan kepada pembangunan fizikal tetapi sebaliknya menumpukan peruntukkan yang besar ke atas pembangunan program dan juga penyelidikan.

Hanya dengan cara ini katanya, institusi pengajian tinggi negara - sama ada awam mahu pun swasta dapat melonjakkan Malaysia ke peta dunia.

Peruntukkan Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT) di bawah Rancangan Malaysia Ke-9 (RMK-9) berjumlah RM18 bilion.

Berucap di hadapan semua naib canselor, pegawai-pegawai tinggi kementerian, ketua pegawai eksekutif agensi dan juga politeknik serta kolej komuniti dalam Bengkel RMK-10 KPT di Nilai Spring Resort dekat sini, Mohamed Khaled menyenaraikan lapan agenda KPT seperti berikut;

Agenda 1:
Menonjolkan Potensi Setiap Rakyat Malaysia melalui penglebaran akses kepada pendidikan tinggi dengan peranan yang lebih besar diberikan kepada Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (IPTS)

Agenda 2:
Pelaburan Dalam Sains & Teknologi di mana dana penyelidikan untuk universiti ditambah secara siknifikan dalam RMK-10 malah bagi setiap projek yang berjaya mendapat geran penyelidikan dari industri akan dipertimbang untuk diberikan ‘matching grant’ oleh kerajaan.

Agenda 3:
Menjadikan Malaysia Sebagai Pusat Perkembangan Pengetahuan & Inovasiiaitu dengan meneroka pasaran-pasaran baru dan mencari pelajar terbaik luar negara untuk datang belajar ke Malaysia.

Agenda 4:
Institusi Penyelidikan & Autonomi, iaitu masanya telah tiba untuk kita menjadikan pusat perubatan dan penyelidikan institusi pengajian tinggi kita sebagai entiti bebas tetapi bersekutu dengan universiti masing-masing sepertimana John Hopkins Medical Centre dan Standford.

Agenda 5:
Memperkasa Ijazah Kedoktoran & Pasca Doktoral, iaitu dengan menambah dana latihan di bawah RMK-10 bukan sekadar untuk membiayai kakitangan akademik belajar di luar negara tetapi juga menggalakkan mereka meneruskan pengajian dalam negara secara agresif.

Agenda 6:
Mewujudkan Konsortium Bersepadu Projek Penyelidikan Berimpak Tinggi. Sebagai permulaan pihak KPT akan mengenalpasti enam (6) konsortium projek penyelidikan berdasarkan enam kluster penyelidikan dan mengajukan permohonan kepada kerajaan sebagai sebahagian daripada inisiatif KPT dalam RMK-10.

Agenda 7: Generasi Muda Malaysia Yang Dinamik dan Progresif
iaitu mengesyorkan KPT untuk memulakan langkah awal dengan memperuntukkan dana untuk menonjolkan kreativiti, bakat dan potensi pelajar Malaysia yang muncul dengan idea besar dan berani.

Agenda 8: Universiti & Model Alternatif Kewangan
. KPT mesti serius dalam memastikan IPTA dapat dan boleh menguruskan kewangannya secara mandiri sepertimana di United Kingdom yang mana hampir kesemua universiti dimiliki oleh kerajaan tetapi pada masa yang sama bebas merencanakan pengurusan masing-masing.

Dalam ucapannya itu juga, tidak kurang daripada empat kali Khaled menekankan betapa di bawah RMK-10, soal pembangunan fizikal seperti pembinaan kampus baru,bangunan baru, prasarana atau membina kampus yang lebih besar tidak harus menjadi keutamaan universiti.

Sebaliknya kata beliau, institusi pengajian tinggi harus memberi fokus yang lebih besar dan serius kepada pembangunan intelektual kerana ia mampu melonjak nama Malaysia di peta dunia.

[Updates] Mr.Zaini, Began to respond

Assalamualaikum and a very Good day.

In the Name of Allah SWT, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Few days ago, we were awakened to a disastrous that befell one of UTP staffs Mr. Zaini, technologist in Civil Engineering Department. He had involved in accident on Sunday,8th November 2009 and had put him under unconsciousness until this moment. Currently, he is being treated in Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, at Ipoh.

Alhamdulillah, after undergoing two surgeries in order to remove blood clots in his head, his condition becomes stable. In our visit on 12th November 2009, we were informed by the medical assistant that he is now in a stable condition although he is still did not regained consciousness. It is such good news as he has started to respond positively to the treatment. Some of his body parts have reacted to the impulses.

With the positive development as this, we pray that Mr. Zaini continues to be strong and could recover very soon. We also would like to thank all parties who have paid your sympathy and concern to our brother.

Let us living in the spirit of brotherhood.

Hard Work And Success Pays Off For Sudanese UTP Graduates

Immense joy and pride were evident on the faces of the Sudanese graduates of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) as they received their scrolls from UTP Rector, Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Kassim, in a special ceremony held at the PETRONAS Country Office Sudan Complex multipurpose hall in Khartoum, Sudan on 1 November 2009.


Beaming parents, relatives and friends chattered excitedly as the postgraduates and undergraduate students filed into the hall towards the stage. Some relatives were beside themselves with joy as they continuously took pictures of the loved ones parading in the convocation robes, while others observed with beaming smiles, puffed up with obvious pride.


This year, 13 Sudanese students graduated with a Bachelors degree, and 18 students qualified for their Masters Degree with one successfully fulfilling the university’s PhD requirement.














In his speech, Dr Zainal said that the mini convocation was held in Sudan for the benefit of those who were unable to attend the convocation ceremony on 16 August 2009 at the UTP main campus in Tronoh, Perak . “The University is honoured to hold a mini convocation in the countries where many international students come from.”

In line with the university’s aspirations to produce well rounded graduates, he mentioned the continuing emphasis on students’ participation in co-curricular activities and social work which have registered successes in sports, academic disciplines and entrepreneurial competitions.

Present at the event was the guest-of-honour, His Excellency Dr Omar Elmagli, the Secretary General, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.


In his speech, he said there was a good relationship between Sudan and PETRONAS in the area of education and capability building, adding that Sudanese students should make the most of opportunity provided for them to study at UTP and contribute to Sudan in ensuring a steady supply of qualified professionals in Sudan’s oil and gas industry.


Meanwhile. En Nusral Danir, PETRONAS Sudan Operations Chairman, in his speech, reiterated PETRONAS’ mission to contribute to the well being of the people and the nation we operate in.


“PETRONAS, under its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes, promotes opportunity for continuous education through financial aids for higher education under Postgraduate and Undergraduate Scholarship Programmes, with intent to fulfil PETRONAS’ aspiration towards ensuring a continuous supply of qualified and competent workforce through a pool of trained Sudanese in the oil and gas industry,” En Nusral explained.


Also present at the ceremony were the Honourable Malaysian Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan Tuan Haji Zainal Hamzah, PETRONAS Vice President of Education Puan Junita Rahmat Hussin, as well as other distinguished guests including representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and local Universities.

Dear All,

The exam period is back again . I wish you the best of luck and I hope everyone will do well . During this period , kindly ensure your health is well looked after through proper timing for meals, exercise and sleep .

To those who are in the final year final sem , this will be your last exam and your final stay at UTP . I am sure you have had a wonderful time and experience of campus life and I do hope you would always remember UTP and contribute back wherever you can.

The next phase is your working life and I hope you would get a good job commensurating with your academic excellence and your co curricular activities in campus.

Do maintain the right attitude and carry yourself well . There should not be any compromise on integrity . Also respect will need to be earned , not demanded.
Lastly , thank you for helping us overcome the various challenges faced in running the University.
